White and Black Churches Unite to Fight For One Church Facing Foreclosure

Daytona Beach, FL (PRWEB) January 16, 2008 -- In the city some call the birthplace of speed; the Living Truth Christian Center needs to raise over $55,000 and they don't have much time to do it. The church was recently served a notice of foreclosure after falling behind on their mortgage due to blighted economic situations in the surrounding community. The Living Truth Christian Center was negatively impacted by the close of several housing developments in the surrounding area causing a number of members to relocate as well as a strong negative impact on the finances due to the economy. Like several other churches across the U.S. who depend primarily on tithes and offerings of congregants, The Living Truth is struggling to survive financially at this time though their faith and spirits remain high. Since then, they have been featured in several stories in the local print, television and radio media.

Pastor Kennedy Jacobs explained, instead of giving in, caving in and quitting, his faith in the eternal promise God gave him compelled him to take his foreclosure issue to the community, The Black and White Clergy Alliance, his peers, family and friends. In a great act of love, faith and compassion Pastors from the Daytona Beach Black Alliance coupled with pastors across central Florida and various denominations and ethnic backgrounds came along with their congregations to unite as one on Sunday, evening January 13th at the Living Truth Christian Center to support Pastor Kennedy Jacobs and his congregation through acts of prayer, love and financial support.

Guest speakers and president of the Daytona Beach chapter of the NAACP challenged the community to, "help this church that has helped the community." The church needs to raise the $55,000 plus by January 17th in order to halt foreclosure proceedings. Many local businesses, organizations and residents have been chipping in to meet this need and they are a little less than halfway there. Also, the church has started a "What if" campaign to raise money not only for the church but to rebuild and empower their community. Because as Reverend Kennedy Jacobs stated, "If the church is hurting, then that must mean that the people are hurting."
